Privacy Philosophy

Indenta was built with a fundamental belief: your thoughts and notes should be private by default. Traditional note-taking apps often require you to upload your entire knowledge base to their servers, giving them access to your most personal data.

Indenta takes a different approach. As an "Offline-First" application, everything you write is stored locally in your browser's internal storage (IndexedDB) by default.

1. Data Storage

All note content, structure, and configuration settings are stored exclusively on your device. Indenta does not provide any cloud storage services, and never transmits your note data to any server because it does not have any servers for that purpose.

2. Peer-to-Peer Sync

When you use the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) sync feature, data is transferred directly between your devices using WebRTC technology.

The transfer is direct between your devices and encrypted end-to-end — your note content is never sent to, or stored on, any server.

3. Google Drive Sync (Optional)

If Google Drive synchronization is enabled, Indenta interacts with the user's Google Drive account to keep notes in sync across devices.

Data Accessed:

  • Google Drive App Data Folder: Indenta uses the "appDataFolder" scope. This is a special, hidden folder in Google Drive that only Indenta can access. No other files or folders in the user's Google Drive are accessed.

Data Usage:

  • Synchronization: Notes, deletion history, and sync metadata are stored in a file (nnote-sync-data.json) within the Google Drive's hidden App Data folder. This allows for restoring or syncing notes on other devices.
  • Generation backups: Before each sync overwrites that file, Indenta saves a timestamped copy of its previous contents (also in the App Data folder) and prunes older copies to at most five, spread from just before the last sync to roughly a month back. These let a user restore an earlier state if a sync merge goes wrong; they are deleted automatically as newer ones age in and are never accessed for any other purpose.
  • Privacy: Google user data is used exclusively for providing the synchronization feature. No data is sold, shared, or used for any other purpose. Note content remains private and is only stored in the user's own Google Drive storage.

4. Offline AI

The AI features in Indenta (powered by the Chrome Prompt API) run entirely on your device. Your notes are never sent to external AI providers or servers for processing. Your queries and the generated responses stay 100% private.

5. Analytics

Indenta does not use any third-party analytics services (like Google Analytics). Indenta does not track which features you use, how long you use the app, or where you are located.

6. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Since Indenta does not have your email address, you are encouraged to check this page periodically for any changes.
